So, I'm on a 2g iPhone, version 3.1.3. I installed an apple app that is 4.1 only. I did this by changing the version number plist first, and then after I installed the app, I changed it back to 3.1.3 so that my phone wouldn't be in constant safe mode. I installed the 4.1 app from my iphone's app store, NOT via iTunes on my computer. If you're curious, the name of the apple app store app is, "F Stone Magazine." I wanted it because I'm an industrial design major and I'd like to read magazines on that topic. No version number is gonna stop me from having that app. Anyway...
When I tried syncing with iTunes, it told me that the new app would be deleted from my phone since it's for the 4.1 version only. I went ahead and did that so that other things could be backed up, but then I had to hack into the version number plist again afterwards, install the app from the app store on my phone once again, and then change the version/build number back.
Is there any way that I can sync with iTunes (to keep backups of new things I do on my iPhone, new contacts, etc.) WITHOUT losing the app that is 4.1 only? Thanks.
This is a separate issue, but still kinda has something to do with the OP:
Also, there is a package from bigboss that I REALLY REALLY want!! It's called "Dimmer 1.0-0" and it makes the backlight of your iPhone even darker so that it's not shining bright as heck in the dark. You can turn it all the way black. Anyway, it's only for 4.0 and it's 99 cents. Can I install that by changing my version number and version build in the plist file or will cydia know that I'm still on 3.1.3 ? I have emailed the dev who created it to ask if he can make it for 3.1.3 and I will happily pay for it, but he hasn't responded yet.
