So I have a DS211 from Synology working fine I guess. I have the option of swapping in for the new QNAP TS-212. Wondering if anyone know if there are any benefits as I only know the basics of these NAS devices. What could I be missing.

thanks

These are very similar devices. If what you have is working for you, I wouldn't swap.

Don't fix what ain't broke!

I'm thinking of getting a DS211 (not "j", not "+")...what drives are you running in yours? Any issues getting it set up and connecting to it?

I know it's not quite the same model, but I have the 211J.
I am using a couple of Samsung F4 EcoGreen 2TB drives in a Hybrid RAID configuration

Had mine setup for 2months now and no issues up to now. Very impressed with it all too.

I was recommended this site by another member on here. Their review of the Samsung drive had me sold :D

Thanks for the link. I see there is indeed an advantage over mirroring, when it comes time to upgrade volume sizes.

I pulled the trigger on the DS211 and two 2TB Samsung drives....now in doing reading on the net.....did you have to update the drive firmware and the firmware on the DS211j to get around the "possible data loss" and "2nd drive spinup" issues?

Thanks all,

I am running a 211J with 2 WD 2TB green drives. I have them setup as basic, no raid, with an autorun backup that backs everything in the first drive onto the second. I like this concept better than RAID. I was worried that streaming my itunes over to an ATV2 would be slow so I tried it last week, worked fine.

What does the autorun backup function, the NAS itself or some process on your computer?
