Using 13" Macbook with Mac OS Leopard
Synology Usb Station with 500gb Western Digital My Book

Hi everyone,

I have a problem, obviously. I recently purchased the Synology Usb station. It works perfectly well however I cannot seem to get it to work with Apple's Time Machine. In the Time Machine preferences I can select the external hard drive hanging offf the usb station as the selected volume ( using TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1 in terminal). However I get an error when I try to back up to it. I think its because of the file system. The usb station will only allow me to format the disk to either Native or Fat 32 and obviously Time Machine doesnt use either of these.

Is there any way around this or am I stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Im new to macs. Only have my unibody macbook a few months so be gentle:)

Cheers,
Chris
