I have 2010 MacBook Pro and running Snow Leopard and have not updated anything for quite some time and have intention of upgrading to Mountain Lion when it comes out, my question is do I wait to update everything thru the mountain lion update or is better to do it now before the the new OS? Thanks very much.

You haven't done the system updates in a while? That's generally not so good. Some updates aren't so important, but there was some security stuff that was pushed out a little while back, and you really should keep up to date with those.

You don't need to upgrade to Lion first, but you should absolutely do all of the updates to Snow Leopard. The security updates and the 10.6.8 update in particular will be important.
