With system and app setting scattered all over the place and Apple's increasing tendency to reset some of them as part of updates, it would be nice to have a utility that takes a snapshot of how you have these settings configured and allows you to compare a post-update configuration to the before-update setup. Anyone know of such a beastie?

I'd start with the output of 'defaults read' in Terminal.app, and check whether that covers everything from systemsetup and pmset, too.

Thanks for both suggestions. I was hoping that there would already be something out there (and the other thread had some suggested apps to look at), but I may need to roll my own, at least for the configuration snapshot part.
