System crash on dmg mount

I'm running 10.6.3 on the new MBP 15" i5. Each time i try to mount a dmg the system crashes (screen dims and asks me to restart)

I've seen some alternatives (ie. burn on a disk and install) however I'd really like to try and fix this issue.

The dmgs work on my iMac and the previous MBPs so I'm not sure what the issue is.
