Ok so I created a smart music list to download almost 6000 songs. Wasn’t are it would take up all my iPhone memory..had 235mb/256 left. So I went to settings and iPhone storage and removed all music. That should have been fine. Well now I’m seeing “system data” at 154 gigs. That’s a little high. Before this mess I have just over 200 gigs. Is it best to just erase all and start over?

Dunno if connecting your iPhone to a computer and use tools like iMazing would help much, if at all. Hassle free solution would be to just start over. Remember to backup.

I connected to a mac to set up a play list to download all my songs. Wasn’t expecting to lose all my space on a 256 gig phone. Guess the best action is to reset the phone as new

Yeah. I would suspect a corrupted music library in play and give that one a shot. But that might not be possible. I’m not an Apple Music subscriber.

I just had a call with Apple Support for this same issue. After explaining to the person why 36 GB of System Data is unusual considering it's as much as almost all of the other categories combined, it was suggested that I restore the iPhone from an iCloud backup so I am trying that now. It's a little frustrating how clueless the person was but oh well. I actually had to ask her to take out her iPhone and look at the System Data.

That’s fine. Let me know what happens. I would like all my songs (little over 5000) on there to download easier but not if this keeps happening

My System Data has been slowly growing since I restored from my iOS backup. Yesterday it was around 9 GB and just now it’s back up to 17 GB.

I too have this issue, spoken to Apple who claim it will fluctuate as it’s the system doing it’s thing. I’m not happy with that as a solution. Please if anybody finds an answer post it.

I dealt with two Apple reps so far and both were clueless. The first one I chatted with started to go the route of “getting a new phone and doing a transfer will take up some space.” I replied “50 GB worth??” The one I talked to on the phone did a screen share and when she got to my System Data that was around 35 GB she said “and why do you think this is a problem?”

I had a 32GB iPad that was using too much "Other" data. I wiped it and set up as new. Did not add any apps or photos on it. Even deleted some default apps. At first the problem was solved. After a day or two all the "Other" data was back and the iPad was unusable.
