After applying the last Nvidia update I have experienced a few system freezes and my 1st kernel panic. Both firsts for me! Before this I never experienced OS X completely freezing and it has been rock solid. Also the list of installed updates has been wiped clean when going to system preferences>software update>installed updates! I noticed the installed updates list gone after the last freeze tonight. The couple of freezes have happened while I have had a couple apps open and was doing a few things. Both times I've had a browser open with several tabs (Flock 2.0.3) IM (latest Adium) and another couple apps hidden. I would be browsing or using one of them and then bam no response from mouse, keyboard, etc and I had to do a hard reset. Shortly after installing the last Nvidia firmware update I experienced my 1st kernel panic. Very unnerving.
Coming from Windows this is par for the course but so far I have had a rock solid machine. I have a unibody MBP 2.53GHz purchased the first week they were out. I haven't experienced any of the problems others with the new MBPs have had other then the external monitor issue which has seemed to be fixed by one of the firmware/OS X updates Apple has issued. I'm running OS x 10.5.6 and have applied all the updates pushed so far from Apple.
My big question is has anyone else experienced their system acting less stable after this last update?
Almost forgot to mention, now I have 9 0 byte files in my trash with non-sensical names like '}*¸qka*.¸qò , ?æûg0lz².| , etc which refuse to be deleted. I can click the empty button and OS X acts like its deleting them but they stay put and don't die. If I try to pull them out of the trash to the desktop to do a get info on them finder won't let me. EDIT: I just tried a get info in the trash and they just disappeared from the trash! Weird! Well that problems gone for now. Maybe they were remnants of the last system crash?
