system preference annoying loop

Has anyone figure out how to stop that annoying loop in system preferences that says settings have been changed??
I can get out of it by a two handed click on the OK button and locations but then it just comes back. I don't want to delete all the info on there and have to retype in.
I'm only finding old posts back in 2008 on this! Am I that far behind??!!!
I was hoping a permanent easy fix has been found by now. I haven't had the need to get into System pref. til now.

I see. Well:

1. When did it start
2. Have you tried resetting the SMC and PRAM? I have not idea if it'll work, but its worth a shot. Resetting does tend to fix various problems

Did the problem just start randomly occuring?

Does the dialog box say "Your network settings have been changed by another application"? If so, you can google that phrase and there are a bunch of forum posts on it. One solution is to trash a couple of preference files, I can't remember which ones. But then you have to redo your network settings.
