I can't reconnect my widescreen to my MacBookPro.

I have a 22 in. Samsung that I had been mirroring from my MacBookPro. The Samsung started to go off, then on, then off etc. Now it's just off. There is a floater screensaver on the Samsung saying Analog, 'check signal cable'. So I figure the Samsung screen itself is OK. I have disconnected and re-connected the cable: Doesn't help.

A friend said he once lost his adapter, so I ordered one. No joy.

But I have a 'Catch 22' conundrum. Right now, my MacBP does not recognize an external display. In System Preferences>Display, it only shows the options for: 'Display' and 'Color'; the middle option 'Arrangement' is not showing.

From my past experience, when my DVI DVI cable/adapter to mini port is plugged into the Pro, I should be able to request the computer to 'Detect Displays'. But, plugging in the Samsung to the MBPro causes my trackpad pointer to go dead, actually disappear, and I can do nothing on the Pro; I cannot request to 'Detect Displays' because the trackpad is dead. When I unplug the mini port, I get my trackpad back, but no external screen to ask for because the cable is unplugged. Plug it in, I lose the trackpad: Catch 22. I thought that the control screen might have been transferred to the Samsung side instead of being mirrored as it was before, putting my control out of reach.

Since the Samsung shows the floating screensaver, I figure it works. I'm now ready to order a replacement DVI to DVI male/male cable.

Any suggestions?
