System Preferences unexpectedly quits

Here is my problem:

I open up the system preferences and click "Desktop & Screensaver". When I scroll down to try and to select a picture from one of my iPhoto albums I notice that they are missing some pictures. So, I click one of the pictures that is there and when I do that the System Preferences quits on me.

Any ideas?
