I know this is a super long shot but does anyone know where one can find the disk images that were used to set up the PPC Macs at the Apple Store back in the day?

Would be great to be able to keep some of these older Macs in their "canonical" state.

Thanks in advance.

The Macs in the Apple Store usually have additional applications etc on them compared with what you would have got when buying one of them new, so depends what you are after - I doubt it is possible to find the images used in the stores anywhere, but the original restore discs will be obtainable if you just want it to be as it would have been when opening the box.

I doubt this is what you're looking for but there are original OS images on WinWorld: https://winworldpc.com/product/mac-os-x/103

You can have a search around that website if you're looking for a tailored store version of the PPC OS - I can't say with any certainty if they were or weren't different.

Thanks for this, not quite what I was looking for but very useful to keep them at home nonetheless.

What you described is exactly what I was looking for. Hopefully someone comes across a box of them and puts them up in the future!

There are a few for MacOS 7.6 through 9.1 and one for Cheetah 10.0 all at Macintoshgarden but those restore discs contain pre-licensed software and also Apple's internal software for retail outlets. Not really for public consumption.
