So first of all I have a 2015 15" rMBP. I'm running the latest version of OS X with the latest version of Safari. There is nothing special about my computer. Normally I'm running the following applications. Safari, Mail, Calendar, Team Speak & Viber. I use an Apple bluetooth keyboard and mouse. And I don't have anything connected via USB. I do NOT use Flash. It is not installed. I do have chrome installed but rarely use it. i DO have ABP installed as an add blocker. However, disabling it does not seem make a difference. Java 8 v 91 is installed. I have not tried uninstalling Java yet.
Safari Hang Ver 1:
I close the lid on my Mac (not shutting down) and let it suspend. About 50% of the time when I resume my Mac session Safari will be sort of™ unresponsive. I can refresh a tab that was already open. I can even click links as long as they don't lead away from the current site. However, typing a new address into the address bar will case Safari to act as if I have no net connection. (Other applications like chat, viber ETC are working as expected)
At this point I have to force quit Safari and relaunch it. After, everything works as expected. This happens about as often as I close Macbook lid to put it to sleep / 50% of the time....
Safari Hang Ver 2:
I am using my computer as normal and Safari won't open new links or play videos. This is pretty strait forward. If I use Safari for a while it seems to become unresponsive under certain conditions. I believe this to be related to the playback of HTML5 / H264 (in the browser) content (As I do no install flash on my computer.) The more videos I play the more likely Safari will become unresponsive. I often use the pinch to zoom to magnify the video playback to avoid going full screen. This is probably unrelated but I'm mentioning this for trouble shooting purposes.
Again, as before force quitting Safari and reopening will "fix™" the problem temporarily. That is until it decides to do it again.
Safari / System Hang Ver 3:
This one is more unpredictable. Basically what happens is in the middle of doing something the computer will seem to freeze. Always seems to be Safari, but I am not 100% sure about this. It's not dead. I know this because Team speak is running in the background and I can still hear people talking. In most cases this can take upwards of a min for me to regain control of the system. In this period of inactivity the computer does not respond to keyboard or tackpad input. I can't switch or force quit applications. I may use a gesture to switch desktops, or type a few keys. These actions appear to be saved to a buffer. When the computer resumes (after about 40s to 60s) the actions play back in the order I had attempted to do them.
In some cases the stem will hang to the point I loose patience. I will force the system to shut down by pressing and holding the power key. when the computer resume everything is back to normal.
OPINION:
I'm not an expert here. It feels like a memory leak, but I'm not convinced. It's more like a process is working at 100% (top / highest) priority. Nothing else takes precedence, not even mouse and keyboard input. I ran into this back in the days I was playing with QNX.
I do have other applications installed like Chrome, FireFox, Skype ETC. But none of them are running when these problems occur. This may or may not be related to the 13" tMBP problems reported on the front page the other day. But i believe these problems to be software and not hardware specific.
