I don't understand how to set prefs so that: I am notified an OS update is available, and I am allowed to choose when to install. I thought I understood. Attached is my current settings.

I was running 11.2.3, and knew by following the news that 11.3 was released April 26th, and then 11.3.1 was released on May 3rd. I was not in any hurry to update, but as of May 12th, I still had not gotten any notification on my M1 mini that any updates were available. At that time I manually checked and installed the updates.

I have a lot of things turned off in the "Notifications" system preferences. I'm wondering if something there is stopping me from getting notifications? Nothing there looks applicable.

So it worked correctly this time, and I didn't change anything. Maybe they sorted it out with the 11.3 update.

I got notification asking if I wanted to install an update now or try later, and when I clicked on the banner, the system preference panel opened and asked for user authentication (password), then a “restart now” button was available in the panel. It only took 15 minutes from getting the notification to finishing with the installation, so obviously it had be previously downloaded. It’s also apparent it was previously downloaded because of asking for my password at the beginning.

The only question remaining is how long it took to get the notification. 11.4 was released May 24th, 11 days ago. That seems like a long time. Is it because I don’t shut down my computer?
