system stats 100% ?

I'm on mavericks for macbook retina 15 and system stats is constantly running at 100% , I have nothing running besides Safari, I don't think I've seen this before, anyway to turn it off ?

Do you mean the systemstatsd process?

Try selecting it in Activity Monitor then hit the X at the top left and force quit it. Does that fix it?

If it happens again, try an SMC reset.
