System update not updating applications

My programmes in the applications folder arent affected by the software update feature. However when I manually select them some inform me that there is a newer version out. Isnt the software update menta search for updates to my installed software too?? :confused:

Um, Software Update only updates Apple applications. However, it should be detecting Apple apps on your system and getting updates for them. Do you mean Apple applications, or applications from other software developers?
