System-wide font position (line height?) problem

Over the past couple of weeks I've noticed that a lot of text in OS X isn't displaying correctly - to be more specific, it seems that the line height is wrong. It's not limited at any specific application, although so far everything that's affected seems to be an Apple-built app. I've attached a few screenshots to better explain exactly what I mean. Does anyone have any idea how or why this is happening, or how to fix it? Thanks.

Edit: I'm running 10.5.8.
