I am looking to travel over to the USA for 10 days to visit some friends soon, and I was thinking of using T-mobiles no annual contract sim only deal.

When I look into activating this, it asks for my phones IMEI number. The only reason I can think of for this is to lock my phone to their network

This would obviously be a complete pain in the proverbial, does anyone know if this is the case (I know that they do this in the UK)

The phone will not be locked.

Giving them the info won't lock your phone. All it does is help them identify the phone your using on their network.

They required that info for my Nexus 4 and it is as unlocked as the day I bought it.
