I'm currently on tmobiles monthly 4g plan (prepaid $30 a month) for my current iphone. I plan to sell it and get the new aws supported iphone sometime next week. Is it possible for me to only pay $580 for the iphone on tmobile to use for the monthly 4g plan? Or do I have to get the unlocked iphone from the apple store for $650?

If you're asking can you purchase the T-Mobile iPhone 5 outright and use it on the $30 plan, the answer is yes.

$649 if you're not on one of their Uncarrier postpaid plans.

T-Mobile said on Facebook you can buy it for $579 on prepaid as well. I am not sure about that. However, on the 12th you can walk into a T-mobile store and find out.

Just asked them myself on fb, yup it's good. Here's the chat if anyone is wondering

Me: Will the iphone 5 be released on the monthly 4g plans as well?

T-Mobile USA: Our monthly 4G plans are an incredible value, and you can use any T-Mobile device (or unlocked SIM device) with these plans, thank you. -Mike

Me: So i will be able to purchase an iphone 5 at tmobile retailers for $580, and then just pop in my prepaid SIM card?

T-Mobile USA
Yes you can. -Mike

Good luck with finding a store that will let you get it prepaid on the 12th. Guarantee they will be holding out to make sure postpaid customers get first chance at them.

They don't hold phones for certain customers. If they have stock, you can buy it whether prepaid or postpaid.

All phones come locked even of you pay the "full" price of $579. I doubt T-mobile is going to be creating priorities for people on post and prepaid plans. These phones will also be sold through the Apple stores with credit from Barclays for credit worthy buyers.

If you pay full price or when you pay off the phone it can be unlocked by making a request with T-mobile. In fact, normally if you pay full price it will be unlocked immediately upon activation (this is how it works when buying from Apple).
