T-Mobile CEO Hamid Akhavan expects to continue to exclusively offer the iPhone in Germany when the 3G iPhone is rolled out, according to Reuters.

"We have a very good relationship with Apple...at least in Germany it is exclusive, and we expect it to remain as such," Akhavan told the Reuters Technology, Media and Telecoms Summit in Paris.

"If and when there is a 3G iPhone we expect to have it exclusively in Germany as well"

Several countries have gone to multi-carrier approaches, including Italy and Australia (Vodaphone, Optus).

Quick translation for the Average Joe:

Aplle has pwned us and we are in a hury to strike a deal with them. We didn't read the first contract thoroughly. You know, the basic word is "We expect", not "we have".

At least it looks like that in my eyes :D

The “we expect” is a bit strange. We don't know what is written in these contracts, but you would think T-Mobile would know having signed the thing.

Ah rats...

Well, it's not like I can't go to Belgium, where they are sold unlocked. It's 4 miles from here. :D

Now this really sucks

Using your iPhone with german Telekom is like Luke deciding to join forces with the emperor, seconds before blowing up the Death Star…

I've a feeling the first 4 or so countries may have different terms to the ones afterwards as the marketshare has shown Apple's tactics haven't paid off outside the US.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A102 Safari/419.3)

They make it seem like Germany will bebstuck with one option like re US. The whole "we expect" statement does make me think though.

Well T-Mobile had it exclusive in Austria since March 14.

Now Orange has announced they will be selling the 3G iPhone in Austria later this year as well.

Oh come on...don't do it Steve!
Vodafone has way better UMTS/HSDPA coverage...and...my contract with them is going on for a few more years :/

The Evil Empire

While George Lucas favored to use German Telekom as villains in Indy 4, Spielberg convinced him of the Soviets instead. Meanwhile for all german speakers here folks, I guess not that many ;)), a news story from Spiegel Magazine today about the Magenta Empire that kicks some butt… spying about journalists for ages etc. Apple should drop that company FAST!

Apple - why T-Mobile?

T-Mobile is a ***** company, which does not fit at all to apple an its cool products....

I can not understand why Steve did this.... The only explanation for me is, that he does not really knwo what the image of T-Mobile is within the people living in Germany.....

Slow, not flexible, ex-monopolist giant with terrible anti-customer service ....

I hope Apple will correct this big mistake very soon...

Guerilla Marketing

What happened here!?! T-Mobile??? What a mistake...

I think Steve missed out to do some Guerilla Marketing in Germany. About 20 of my friends and I would like to own the iPhone and the "only" reason they and I have not bought one is "T-Mobile". Not even the most awesome product will get us to switch!

Now multiply this number by probably many cases around Germany and you see how much potential is left untouched!!!

I am a proud owner of Apple shares since 1998 and the biggest fan! I really hope that Steve will clear his mind about T-Mobile. ;)

PERFECTLY RIGHT ! I can report the same..... T-Mobile is also the ONLY REASON in Germany NOT TO BUY the iPhone....

I hope Steve Jobs will soon recognise the REAL PICTURE of this company T-Mobile..... that is ot a company to do anything "exklusivly" with...

The most customers of T-mobiel are old, old fashioned people, who are to lazy to switch.... they are not interested in such an great technology likte the iPhone, most T-Mobile grandpas/customers woult tell about the iPhone "SchnickSchnack" that means translated so much like "technical toy - nobody nees this really" ...

Whether the copmany, and also the customers are nto the right for iPhone....

The BIGGEST part of germany potential is UNTOUCHED till now, and we are FORCED to use jailbreaked phones, because no modern thinking normal german citizen would choose T-Mobile if he is not forced to do....

Come on Apple, we need competition in Germany with iPhone, FREEDOM FOR THE IPHONE! Give it to all companies - without any locks!

Than you would sell so much more in Germany...

GIVE APPLE IPHONE TEAM THE FEEDBACK!!! LETS FIGHT TOGETHER AGAIB THIS AND GIVE APPLE THE INFORMATION WHICH MISTAKE THEY ARE DOING....

I am sure, if Steve Jobs would be informed propally and know about T-Com and T-Mobiel, he would NEVER had decided to give the iPhone to T-Mobiel, and not at all to T-Mobile ONLY.....

Give APPLE the Feedback: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Apple really reads that!!!
