It’s been awhile since I’ve actually attempted to upgrade to get a new phone on day 1.

For T-Mobile users, what’s the best method to upgrade?

I’m off Friday the 12, which is when I assume preorders start, so I’ll likely be able to be up and ready. I don’t really want the 17 sent to my house for fear of it getting stolen. Can you have it shipped to the store?

I’ll be trading my phone in as well. Can I take my 15 PM to the store after the 17 arrives I don’t have to worry about my trade in getting lost in the mail?

Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Buy from Apple, carriers lock you in.
With Apple you have 14days after you receive your new phone to trade in your old one...
Have the phone delivered to your home, request the service to require signature

Does Apple offer the same deals as what carries do?

Seems like during the first few weeks of release date, carriers offer decent trade in deals. Can’t remember if Apple does as well.

Thanks

Typically no deals from Apple afaik, but, for my 13PM the current offer from TM translates to $10 savings over 24 months, for me that is not enough to get locked in. I also have an Apple CC that gives me 3% cash back

Go thru the process of buying a 16PM at Apple.com with a trade-in and then look at the Apple and TM offers... the offers vary on your existing plan

I'm on T-Mobile. I never buy from carriers. I will order from Apple the day of pre-orders, pick it up at the store, and do the trade-in there (or via mail to Apple). I prefer to trade in at the store. The pricing/promotions with carriers are far (IMO) intentionally confusing and misleading. I'd rather just pay for the phone, trade in the old one, and be done with it. Apple will help with carrier activation at the store (esp. when trading in the old phone).

The carriers got cute when they lost their contracts. Now they lock u in for 36 months with “credits” for your trade in. It’s racket. If you leave the carrier you lose the credits and never get your full trade in value.

I haven't done anything with a carrier in a long while but there's no way I'm leaving Tmobile anytime soon. Do they do some kind of deal where you qualify for XXXX off? Last phone I had through them was my 13 mini and I'm going to go 17pro 1TB probably. I have enough CC points and whatnot to get whatever I want but was debating best way to get it. Didn't want to leave a free phone or something on the table if it was an option.

You can do the carrier deals and buy through Apple. That’s what I usually do. This last time, I did the order through T-Mobile, and it was a nightmare. There was a defect on the phone, and getting it replaced by T-Mobile was ridiculous. They ended up deleting my trade-in deal when they exchanged the defective phone. Took me like 5 calls to them and multiple hours to get it fixed.

Even if I were to use a carrier promotion again, I’d buy through Apple in their app, which is what I did for my wife’s iPhone 16.

I never liked the carrier deals with 24 or 36 months locked in.

I always order from Apple and choose my carrier (currently Visible) without any contracts.

Didn't think I'd get a new iPhone after 1 year since I usually wait for the 2nd year to match the Apple Card payoff (24 months 0%).

This time, I am going from 16 Pro to 17 Air and paying off the 16 early.

Yeah, I could just envision Apple’s upgrade process being much smoother than T-Mobile’s!

I don’t know if I have ever done an upgrade prefer for a release on day 1. Usually I just go into a store and do it and end up having to wait a couple / few weeks to receive the phone.

I’m anxious this time around to get it early.

T-Mobile has never done 36 month payment plans on upgrades, always been 24 months. Doesn’t mean it won’t change. Check what the trade in offer is, sometimes they do like $1,000 credit for trade in. So what you get is 24 month bill credits. The you buy the new phone for say $1,000 on a 24 month payment plan.

The catch, if you leave the plan within 24 months you lose the future bill credits for the trade in. If you have no plan to leave T-Mobile, then take their trade in offer. They mail you the phone and you can mail the old one in. Check the condition restrictions of course for your trade in.

What I’m hoping is they take my moms iPhone 11 Pro, On trade, and I’ll giver her my 14 pro, and get a 17 for my wife so two upgrades for the price of one.

You can check you upgrade offers now, it guarantee they will change and go UP once the 17 is announced.

Also, a lot of this depends what plan you are on.

If you don’t do this, best price is to sell on your own typically for cash.
