I just noticed that when i take pictures using my rebel t2i the serial number is shown in the exif...basically whats the risk when my serial number is visible? and how do i hide it?

I can't imagine what the harm would be... it provides another way to authenticate that your photos are truly from your camera. If you want to remove that part of the EXIF metadata, there is a command-line program called "exiftool" that can do all kinds of EXIF manipulation. I looked through the T2i manual and unfortunately didn't see a way to disable serial number recording in-camera.
