iOS Tab bar button image sizes

Hi-

I made a custom tab bar all programmatically. The tab bar has a button overlaid in the middle covering up one of the tabs. I am wondering if there is a way to make the selectable size of the tab that the button covers up non existant or a very small amount so that a user is unable to select it.
