Tab select and open pdfs

When in the finder and a box comes up that requires me to click "ok", "cancel" whatever, i used to be able to tab from selection to selection then use the space bar to select. I cannot do this anymore. Anybody know why?


Also how can i get pdfs to open in a window in safari instead of having to download them then open them in preview?
