Someone please put me out of this misery. I can't stand using Word but unfortunately I have to. I am trying to do something simple.

To start off, here's a picture:

I want to make number 1, 2, and 3 look like 4. I don't want to have either a black border or a white border. I have no idea how I did what I did in no. 4 but I cannot figure out how to do this with the first 3 borders.

If I have a border then it will obviously be black like in number 3 but when I remove the border it will look like 1 and 2 with the ugly white border in between.

How can I get rid of this? I've been searching and searching on Google but to no avail.

Any help is appreciated :)
