I use my macbook in class all the time and I love it, but in my calculus and music classes I often am at a loss because I am constantly needed to write equations and jot down music.

is there any really good writing system available that I would prefer to be able to use without the computer handy but that isnt a necessity.

bottom line is im looking at spending under $300 but I want something that is great quality if something does exist in that price range.

I hate to say it but the good old pencil and paper is the only way to go for math... I've never used anything else so I can't comment. MathType is a good update to equation editor in Word.
