Tablet SIM in iPhone?

Has anyone tried or can provide information if I could buy a tablet SIM from Verizon and put it in an iPhone?

I have an iPhone 7 with the Verizon unlimited plan, tired of using my hotspot, and would also like to have my 6s function independently since my Apple Watch is paired to it I don't get my notifications sometimes

Can I get a tablet or jetpack SIM card that cost $20 and put it into my 6s to have a data only unlimited 2nd iPhone?

In the UK data (tablet) sims are designed not to work in a smart phone.
So I imagine the US have a similar system that picks up on the type of device and blocks it.
