Not literally but my god its draining fast. The machine is noticeably warmer. I updated on day 0. I really really hope they optimize this.

M1 Max 16" MBP 2TB and 32gb RAM.

Same exact machine here, M1 Max 16" MBP 2TB and 32gb RAM running macOS Tahoe. Since upgrading from macOS Sequoia (erase and install method), I have noticed an increase in RAM and CPU usage. MBP case feels warm to hot at my desk now. My battery drains noticeably faster than before I updated. I wish I had just waited to upgrade, lol.

Check your activity monitor. Does contactsd seem to be running hard?

no, its at 0%. I don't use the Contacts app on my Mac. For me, and I'm no expert, so far as I can tell, one issue seems to be Safari. Safari is consuming more memory and CPU than it did with Sequoia. The new Safari is noticeably faster at loading pages, but its seems to be consuming more resources than before the OS upgrade. Lots going on in Activity Monitor, really strange, can't figure this out. The CPU and GPU just seem to be working more than before, making the machine hotter and making the battery drain faster. Reboots don't seem to help.

Same hardware, same issue.
The laptop is noticeably warmer (not really hot) and battery life dropped significantly.
According to Activity monitor CPU usage is around 20%, the main culprit being windowserver.

Same here. But also some Youtubers I've seen have the same problem. All those animations and liquidity of glass and bullsh*t AI needs ressources, it seems. Also, a lot of people have problems with Electron apps. So if you use VS Code or something like that it may also need more battery than before. The last reviewer on youtube said he has 2hrs less battery life. Thank you Apple. That's definetively worth it. Big bubble buttons and shiny transparent windows... Great job.

I have a MBP 16" intel i7 with 16Gb of RAM and I have the same issue here. And seems to be windoserver as well. My problem is that the computer never really goes to sleep and the fan is on all night. The problem seems to disappear if I disconnect it from the external monitor I am using that was no problem at all until I upgraded the MacOS

Same here even on an M4 Pro. My laptop is noticeably hotter when it always used to run cool. And the battery is definitely draining faster. I'm only doing basic web browsing, email, and texting. Similar experience to my iPhone 15 Pro that I updated to the new iOS 26.

Let's be honest, given the power of an M4, it should be doing those tasks on tickover, like <1% cpu.

I keep going back to my ancient iPad Air that is stuck on iOS12, which can do those things on a dying battery and still last days. Something is very wrong somewhere.

I think I found the culprit, at least in my case.
It seems to be Stage Manager.
When on, the system gets choppier and Windows Server puts strain on the CPU (more stages - bigger load) but when off everything is smooth and the laptop cools down.
