I think Apple had a bunch of cameras left from the 3Gs, and said "hey, let's put those in iPad2. Those idiot customers will just be happy to have any camera"

Why not? It works for tHe exact same cameras in the touch 4g... If there is some problem the dev will probably update it sooner or later. One of the few things the ipad2 camera should be fine for.
