I've read lately – somewhere, can't remember – that that the iPhone5 will have both CDMA and GSM. Is this correct? If so, can it work in China? (unlocked)

This is a rumors site. Unless it's announced by Apple, your guess is as good as ours.

Now, in reference to China carriers, I believe a lot of their networks run on CDMA, of which you'd need a Verizon iPhone.

I have no idea what spec the iphone5 will have but CDMA phones are not locked.

For a CDMA phone to work in China it must operate on the correct frequency and the Carrier must be willing to register it on their network.

China has both CDMA and GSM so either way it should work. Based on past experience my past US based CDMA phones worked in China (roaming).

I'm taking my GSM iPhone to China in 2 weeks and will be using it while I am there.
