Take apart iBook G3 charger?

Hi all,

I have an old iBook G3 and I'm on my third apple charger for it. Every single one I've had has had the cord fray and open up at either of the ends regardless of how gentle I try to be with them.

This one has frayed and split right where it enters the white plastic casing for the power brick.

I am a student and I have, well, no money. At the moment I can't afford even the cheapest of el cheapo third-party chargers. In fact, at the moment, I can't afford my rent.

I am pretty sure I could re-wire this myself if only I could get into the casing.

Unfortunately Apple has cast their usual Spell of Impenetrability on the thing. I have shoved screwdrivers in every available slot between the two sides of the unit and levered the crap out of it. All it's accomplishing is ripping up the edges of the casing. I can get the screwdriver end fully inside the unit at one particular place, but no amount of levering seems to snap the case open.

Has anyone done this before or know how to get in?

dremel tool......

find someone who has one you can borrow and use the thinnest 1/8" diameter cutting blade to gently cut it open along the seams..... fix the wiring, and superglue it back together when finished.

Been there, done that
