Takes forever for p/iBooks to shut down, something wrong?

You might need to use an application like Tech Tool Pro 4 or DiskWarrior to repair volume damage, if you keep shutting it down the hard way. You may try repairing permissions through Disk Utility to see if there are some outstanding issues--special permissions are not outstanding issues, you'll see those.
