Every time I turn my computer on spotlight claims that it is "indexing".

It does this for about 10-15 minutes and then stops.

It SLOWS DOWN my computer and I'm seriously considering ripping spotlight out just to stop this from happening.

Does anyone know what I can do?

I completely disabled Spotlight and removed all the indexes from my drives.

I don't miss it at all. I've never had a problem finding what I was looking for, and I keep no less that seven mounted volumes on my desktop at all times.

This terminal command disables spotlight from indexing:
sudo mdutil -a -i off

There is a piece of freeware out there called "Spotless" that may still work.

I believe you can also disable Spotlight using a freeware utility app called "Deeper".
Deeper can also remove existing index files.
