I will be purchasing an IPhone in the next few days. My sister is going to be keeping my current phone (Verizon), so I do not have to worry about early termination fees. However, I was wondering if it was possible to take my current number with me to AT&T and get a new number for the Verizon contract I currently have? Thanks in advance...

A Verizon contract is tied to your number and name, not your phone. If you want to port your number, you'll have to terminate your contract and pay the fees.
