It normally saves the screen shot right to my desktop but now all i hear is the shutter sound and no file appears.

Is there a setting somewhere where you can change where it saves them?
 
hhmm maybe your desktop isnt updating? if you go to your Mac HD > then on the left side of that bar hit your desktop you can arrange the icons to show by list, and then sort them by date created or something. It should then show them in the folder view.

i have the problem aswell sometimes, i normally just quit the finder and open it up again, or log out/in
 
Search for Picture to find them. If you can't, make sure that you didn't hold down Control when you took them. That puts them on the Clipboard.

thanks.. I tried that but there are no files listed. hmmm.. and i've since restarted and nothing has changed. IT's funny 'cause moments ago it was working.
