Talking:3G and EDGE?

As far as talking goes, is there a reason why one would need to use EDGE of 3G, particularly in a place where both are available? Thanks.

3G providers a wider data stream, therefore making your calls much clearer than when on EDGE. Some people compare it to talking normally, where on EDGE it sounds like you have your hand over your mouth! Haha.
