Tap to click and how hard before it registers

I have a mid 2010 white macbook unibody and I'm wondering how hard does one have to tap to click before it registers? It seems kind of mixed with this trackpad because sometimes it'll register with a slight tap other times probably near the bottom it requires a harder tap. Does anyone have any input in this?
