I have been getting used to tapping to click on the new trackpad because it's so damn loud.

Anyway, there is a noticeable lag when tapping to click vs. actually pushing the pad down to click. (confirmed that it is the same amount of lag for tap to click on the previous generation of "classic" MBPs).

To go on...... when I boot the machine into windows XP the tap to click is much faster (even though the drivers suck ass and the pointer tends to go all over the place and such) but the actual response of the tapping is much more instantaneous.

Anyone else know what I'm talking about?

I would expect a slight delay. The software has to determine if that tap is really a tap or one of the other multitouch actions. If the touchpad registered a click as soon as you touch the pad it would be worthless.

I too noticed that the behavior in Windows (Vista in my case) was different but I couldn't put my finger on it (no pun). You're right, though, the response in Windows is significantly faster.
