iPhone 3GS was released. Was only an incremental upgrade from iPhone 3G.




From July - September:
Cases from various manufacturers appear with camera holes for the 3rd Gen iPod Touch.

Apple holds "It's only Rock and Roll" iPod media event. iPod Touch 3rd Gen launches WITHOUT cameras. When asked about the missing camera, Apple denies any existence of camera and touts iPod Touch as a gaming device.

April 2010
Seven months after the 3rd Gen iPod touch is released without a camera, prototypes with a camera appear on eBay for a short type... only to be removed from the auction site at the request of Apple.

I posted all of this to show you that cases appearing in China, cases appearing in US stores, and actual prototypes even popping up doesn't mean it will be released.

None of those cases ever showed up in an actual ATT store which this time they have. They have also shown up in the inventory for the stores. I am sure higher up execs at ATT have seen the new iPhone and know what it looks like

Although I understand where you're going with this, I do think removing the camera at the last minute is a bit different than overhauling the entire design.

Those cases in that other Macrumors story were never proven to be at an AT&T store. Even so... 3rd Gen iPod Touch cases with camera holes appeared at BEST BUY who is a big partner with Apple as well.

Not really... it's not as if they are needing to engineer a new design. The iPhone 4 form factor is already well established... not an overhaul. Not to mention that Apple already has a history of field testing new devices in older cases to maintain secrecy.

Not sure but an at&t employee said in another thread that it wasn't at an at&t store but a reseller (or whatever they're called).

I am still waiting for someone to provide one bit of proof that it was actually at an AT&T store. There is no proof of that whatsoever. And for the person who is claiming that the AT&T logo is on the package- what? That is definitely not the AT&T logo on that packaging... it's just some curved lines.

Let's say, against the 99-1 odds that it is true and that is a legitimate AT&T leak... why, out of the hundreds of stores in the United States, has only one been delivered these cases? Are you telling me that there is not at least one other store with the shipment and at least one other manager or employee willing to go anonymous and provide a pic of this? I don't believe that.

First, it was a "store", not "stores". If it were really happening it would not be happening only at one store.

Have you taken a good look at that supposed "inventory" snapshot? Whoever took it was so close to that screen and provided a pic with such poor quality that anyone could have constructed that spreadsheet and took a picture. In fact, someone actually did that in one of the threads to prove the point and it looked nearly identical. And, most of all- go back and look at that "inventory" picture. Read the entire thing. There are at least two misspellings. Do you really think AT&T misspells that often on a single page of inventory that is likely spell-checked and automated to some degree?

And, where are these prototypes of iPhone 5 that people keep talking about?

Yeah but it's all stuff everyone knows before. It's just another thread adding to the noise of "what do you think it will be? or this is why this will happen and this wont on tuesday". Regardless of tiny details, your post doesn't add information to the iphone 5 talk.

What are you talking about. I am posting a little history of Apple rumors and leaks that may give a little insight on what MIGHT have happened to the iPhone 5.
