So I looked at the watch today and have some experience with other smartwatches (moto 360, pebble) and here are some thoughts after spending 2 hours with the device:
The watches see, very well sized and weighted. The steel one is great and no wonder apple is touting it as the main watch.
Based on the fit and finish of the steel watch is well priced, I do not think its expensive. Its made out of good materials and everything feels great on the wrist. I even tried scratching the steel with all my nails and might and then wiped it clean and there were not many scratches. I think apple has learnt their lesson
There wasn't any lag but sometimes the force touch did not register. the screen is just great and unlike anything anyone else has to offer and the frames are a perfect 60fps
The taptic engine is very well thought out. Unlike vibrations, its very hard to miss and has many different feelings. Over a period of time your body will start getting accustomed to what feedback related to what type of notification. You don't have to wear the tight to feel it and its feedback can be adjusted. Its a game changer in my opinion.
People questioning the band attachments to the watch to be too high unlike the moto360. I think its the right decision as it lets the watch sit well on the wrist and looks better aesthetically.
Some edge taps might be hard to miss but what I realized after spending 2 hours with it is that apple is right about this being their most personal device...For example i feel people will just set the complications on their watch everyday for different requirements. The watch face, complications and glances are all that people will need.
Pressing the crown is a whole different story, in person it takes time to understand what double press and press and hold and single press are doing. continuously.
Siri works great and will be very useful to set reminders and events. the music player interface is my favorite by far. Other than that I did not feel like doing much with it.......Notifications, complications and glances is all I need.
Now regarding the competition: I have own the moto360 and have used the pebble and the experience is completely different and sad in every single way. If there is one thing that every other company has missed its that wearables require much greater amount of testing in person and I can see every company that has released a smartwatch has not tried to look at the experience a user might have. For example, the moto 360 has such a big display but very low pixel density not to mention an LCD and all it does is give you notifications. The vibration feedback is always a hit and miss as the whole thing vibrates, people are complaining that the apple watch is too complex to use....this might be an issue for some but on the other hand the moto 360 does stuff but barely. I never feel the alarm vibrations in the morning, constantly miss emails and even thigh I can take notes very easily, I can't read them in a single app. IMO the moto 360 is just a large waste of space. Its a compromised device because it wasn't designed to be a wearable( cut a circular display, get a steel circular casing....oh we need better battery...ok make it bigger...oh we will use a phone processor...ok but its big ...make it thicker then....the display needs to be laminated ....oh circular is hard....should have thought ahead...heart rate monitor...ok lets make an app to tell the heart rate......release with one band and then have many different ones later......find out that making bands and that too custom ones are really hard) It all ends up with a compromised device and by compromise I mean user experience wise.
I feel the apple watch and the way it combines many different things into a complete package is atleast 2 years ahead of the competition maybe even 3 in terms of the whole package integration. It just seems that apple has taken a lot of time to test this device and maybe they have gotten it right.
Sorry about my poor writing skills....
