I got an email this morning that my on-line Target BF order was cancelled. This was for an Air 16gb Verizon unit.

Did this happen to anyone else?

Thank you for shopping at Target.com. Unfortunately, due to incredibly high demand we are unable to fulfill the item(s) below from order #xxxxxxxxxxxx.

We are sorry and recognize that this is both an inconvenience and disappointment. Please accept our sincerest apologies and a $25.00 Target eGiftCard that is redeemable at Target.com.

Ouch sorry to hear.

I too ordered the 16gb Verizon air but silver and it has shipped already.

This occurs from time to time on various retailers. It occurred to me buying at Amazon last year. I only got an apology no gift card, so I guess you're ahead of the game.

I had the opposite problem, I canceled my Staple's BF order, but they sent one anyway!

Kudos to Target for offering the GC. I assumed they couldn't meet the demand and if something is backordered for too long I think a lot of retailers may consider it too long to wait and cancel the order. Most offer nothing so $25 is a nice little acknowledgement that it sucks and they would like to see your face again.

I think Target should have honored your order and shipped when it came back in stock at the original sale price, but oh well.

Gift card cancelled

I got similar mail. But from what I see, they cancelled the $100 gift card and applied the discount to my ipad order. Which I think is "better" than earlier as it is now a straight $100 off the ipad instead of having to use the gift card.

Agreed. While it would have been better for Target to cut off the sale, it is nice that they offered a $25 gift card.

Best Buy had a similar deal on last years mini. I bought one and they then cancelled the order. I went to BB, got the iPad and the $100 gift card. They them sent me another $100 gift card. I called them to ensure that I was only charged once. They said I was only charged 1 time and that I can keep the extra $100.

Target did the same thing to my iPad Air 16gb Verizon (black) order. They cancelled the $100 Target GC, and applied a $100 discount to the iPad portion of my order. Then today (a few days after they cancelled my Target GC) I received another email notifying me that they had cancelled the iPad portion of the order. The cancellation email did mention to expect a $25 gift card.

My iPad shipped today so I guess its different for different orders based on where you are in queue

Don't buy anything from Bestbuy. They repackage returned items and sell them as new. Their people know little about what they are selling except the warranty they always try to stick you with! They are only slightly better than Radio Shack! :p

i know they reseal open boxes (call them geeksquad certified or w/e), but almost all big stores have had that problem..it's mostly from end users returning it sealed. Target for instance will always open to check that the serials match, but occasionally you'll get the lazy guy who doesn't and that's usually how you get into the situation you described above.
