so i just tried moving some tv shows from my MP to my MB, and it took like 5 minutes for each folder to open. when i finally got to the right one and dragged the folder i was copying over, the dialog said it was going to take like 22 hours...
:eek::eek:
for like 4 gigs of files.

just updated to 10.5.4, but don't know if this is a new problem or not as i haven't used target disc mode in ages.

anybody else seen this or had any similar issues?

Check Activity monitor and see if mdworker and mds are running. These are the Spotlight processes. Spotlight might be indexing the drive connected by target disk mode and this will slow everything down.

You can disable the indexing by going to Spotlight Prefs in System Prefs and adding that drive to the list of items you don't want indexed. Once you do that, within a few minutes, those two process should stop or lessen the cpu load.

more than likely it's spotlight as stated by Merl1n unless you've got a HDD that's going bad, or you've got a bum FW cable.
