Target Disk Mode Snow Leopard and Tiger

My hardrive has failed on my IMac which is running tiger, i am using my MacBook running Snow leopard to use target disk mode to retrieve the docuuments, however I am able to access the hard drive but it wont allow me to copy the files over. it prepares to copy but never gets round to actually copying the files. could this be because i am using snow leopard, i had to do the same before when i was running leopard and it worked fine.

any help on this would be great!!

It isn't working because your hard drive in the iMac has failed. It's nothing to do with the OS.

My guess is that your documents may be in a bad area of the hard drive.
