target disk mode

i need to do a target disk mode transfer between my white imac and 13 inch mbp. i need to know what cable to buy and how to do this transfer thanks for any help

You need a firewire cable.

White iMacs come in many fashions, the early models (G5) had only Firewire 400, but the newer ones had also FW800, so depending on what Firewire port you have on the iMac, you need either a 6-pin to 9-pin cable (FW400 to FW800 for the uMBP)

or a 9-pin to 9-pin cable

iMac Firewire ports

Firewire 800 port

Firewire 400 port

uMBP Firewire 800 port
