I also hate sales tax in California, but I think of it as a fee for all the beautiful sunshine.

Sales tax in CA also varies by county to county. In LA county it's 9.75%. In Orange County its only like 8.5% (I think). I live on the border of the two counties and always go out of my way to buy in Orange County.
