From I can gather, we can be quite confident that Apple faced a key test failure when designing batteries for the TB laptops, which means it had to fall back to a more conventional design, leaving unused space in the casing. The result: the TB has lower battery capacity than the nTB, despite having to power an additional touch bar display.

My question: assuming that Apple finally manages to build a new battery for the next iteration of the TB models, is it reasonable to hope that early adopters could get their batteries replaced for newer ones, leading to longer battery life?

I looked around but could not find any discussion of this possibility.
