TB2 Dock with TB3 adapter?

Hi all.

I need to connect my ACD 27" 2560x1440 display, 2 USB 3 drives and some speakers to my tbMBP 13"

Has anyone tried to connect a Thunderbolt 2 Dock with the Apple Thunderbolt 3 adapter? Im wondering if I can connect my Mini DisplayPort to the TB2 port on the dock, and then connect the dock to my tbMBP with the thunderbolt 3 adapter?

That works because the dock encapsulates the display signal into Thunderbolt, transfers it to the computer which then undoes the encapsulation. It is how I've set up my MBP 2016 (I'm using the tb2-tb3 adapter from Apple).
