Two days after telling police that thieves broke into his house and stole $7,000 worth of electronics, Alex Van Almsick realized it was technology not detectives that would solve the crime.
He hadn't been able to get an investigator on the phone. But his job at a computer store left him well-equipped to do a little sleuthing on his own.
Using the Internet, Van Almsick linked up with his stolen iMac. He used global positioning to trace it to the Clinton-Peabody housing complex then manipulated the built-in camera to take video of the person who had it.
