TechTool found a bad block on my external drive that I use for reading/writing audio files when recording.
So it's mission critical for sure...

Does this mean the drive is about to crap out or anything? It is an older drive that's gotten a lot of use in the years that I've had it.

Or is it not a big deal since it's only one block?

I ran the test twice and it was the exact same block both times.

Thanks

It could be just a bad block and that'll be the sum of it, but I'd keep an eye on that drive. And back up!!

Sometimes a bad block isn't discoverable until it's actually used. But, sudden emergence of a bad block can also indicate a drive in the process of dying, and you say this is an older and well-used drive.

Drives are cheap. Take this as a clue to get a new one. If you find another block going bad on you, run!
