Have changed text encoding, rebuilt mailboxes, reindexed messages and run both Disk Utility and Onyx on my G4 Powerbook, Mac OS 10.4.11, and Mac MAIL is still delivering messages (seemingly primarily from Windows users) with garbage characters that would make your hair stand on end. Not your ordinary garbage, characters look like mirror writing, upside-down garbage.

Characters look perfectly fine when mail directly fetched from server. Folks sending messages are long-term email contacts; nothing has changed in their set-up that would result in such changes (ditto on my end). Doesn't matter if attachments sent or not. Not strictly Windows mail either, some long term Mac emailers are also sending me mail that ends up wonky.

I am no developer. No Terminal genius either. Any advice??? I'm ready to play Brando on the rooftops with carrier pigeons.
